Chapter Eleven
Gideon and Gabrielle danced to a few more songs before making their way to an open-air restaurant where they sat down to have a meal they were more than ready for. The restaurant was still under the concave of the overhead light show. The duo was able to have privacy while still enjoying the ambiance of Old Vegas. They could still see the sights and people watch while enjoying their meal. Theyâd definitely worked up a hearty appetite.
As the couple enjoyed a seafood medley of oysters on the half shell, lobster tails, shrimp scampi, and king crab legs with all the fixings, partnered with Moetâs Dom Perignon champagne, they took the opportunity to get to know each other better. In doing so, the conversation inevitably turned to why each of them was single.
âI canât imagine that a handsome, successful, talented man like you hasnât been taken off the market,â Gabrielle observed as she took a sip of the delicious champagne.
âYou wouldnât be laying it on a little thick, would you?â Gideon asked, lightly stroking his beard as his eyes temporarily dropped from the contact his orbs made with hers. He wasnât good at accepting compliments because he felt it could lead to empty vanity when you let the compliments go to your head, and it showed. Gabrielle saw Gideonâs response, his masculine flush of embarrassment. She was somewhat surprised he responded that way, and she let him know.
âI canât imagine that you donât get compliments all the time. Youâre an incredible musician, even if you donât readily accept anything else, I said about you. Iâm sure you hear that all the time, right?â
âItâs not so much the compliment but who the compliment comes from,â Gideon replied, looking up slowly, broodingly through half-closed lids. The impact, however, was just as strong as the two exchanged a subtle look of amusement.
âSo, what are you saying, Gideon?â Gabrielle asked, balancing the fluted glass between both hands.
âThat it matters who the compliment comes from, love.â
âI can appreciate that. It makes sense,â Gabrielle agreed. âBut I still stand by my observation.â
âI could say much the same about you,â Gideon replied. âAs a matter of fact, I canât for the life of me understand why such an intelligent, sophisticated, fun-loving, beautiful woman like yourself hasnât been taken off the market.â
âIâm sure we both have our reasons,â Gabrielle answered, somewhat deflecting, while simultaneously fully understanding that who the compliment came from definitely made a huge difference. Sheâd been called beautiful before. Sheâd been called intelligent before. Yet, having Gideon refer to her in that way made her heart turn over in her chest.
âWould you like to talk about why youâre single, or is that your preference to be single, I mean?â Gabrielle asked.
âI donât mind sharing, as long as thereâs reciprocation. Iâm curious about your status as well.â
âI donât have a problem sharing my why,â Gabrielle smiled. âAfter you, of course.â
Gideon nodded his head, agreeing to go first. âLet me make something perfectly clear,â he began, the weight of his deep voice resonating at an even lower vibration.
